FDWN Eestablishment

Falaba District Women`s Network was established in 2017.

FDWN was established in 2017 immediately after the redistricting as Falaba District Women’s Network registered in August 2018 but members of this group were operating as a FBO under the Koinadugu Women’s Group that was established in 2007.

Legal Status

Registered with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Falaba District Council, Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs and The Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security.

Falaba District Women’s Network was established to contribute to address the numerous challenges that affect the lives of our rural women and girls in Falaba district.

Our vision is to inspire to have a democratic Society where the Rights, Decisions of Women, and Girls are upheld and respected.

Our Mission

FDWN exists to empower Women and Girls actively participate in issues that affect their lives through Advocacy, Trainings, Income Generating Activities, Civic Education and a Rights Base Approached.

Membership/Affiliations

FDWN is a member of the Women Forum Sierra Leone, the biggest women’s Movement in the country. It is also a Non State Actor, a component of the Civil Society In Falaba District that is actively involved in Monitoring of the Budget discussions and implementations at National and Local Level. Also the regional Coordinating organization for the National Platform for Social Accountability on Agriculture, Health and Education.

A Member of DiSEC

FDWN is A member of DiSEC ( District Security Committee) the Highest Security Committee in the district.

National Elections Watch Secretariat

FDWN also serves as the secretary General for National Elections Watch and observes all elections within the district and also the coordinating Body for all the CSOs within the district.

Agriculture committee

FDWN is a member of the Agriculture committee on climate change resilience

Advisory Committee of 5 executive members,

FDWN has an advisory committee of 5 executive members, 5 full time staff (the Project Officer, Admin Finance, field officers and an office assistance. The Coordinator is not a full time staff. FDWN have Chiefdom Focal Persons in 9 of the Chiefdoms out of 13 chiefdoms within the district.

Falaba District, Northern Sierra Leone

Falaba District chiefdoms - Mongo, Sulima, Morifindu, Folosaba Kamba, Kamadu Yiraia Kabelia, Dembelia Musaia and Dembelia Sinkunia Delmandugu and Neya chiefdoms

Falaba District is a district in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. It is one of the sixteen Districts of Sierra Leone. Its capital and largest town is Bendugu. Other towns in Falaba District include Falaba, Sikunia, Krubola, Musaia Ganya and Mansadu Falaba District is divided into thirteen chiefdoms. Falaba District is one of the largest Districts in Sierra Leone in land area, However, it is one of the least most populous districts in the country. Falaba District is known for its mostly conservative Muslim population. [5] Falaba District has a population of 205,353, based on 2018 estimate.

In 2016, Falaba District was created out of Koinadugu District, and declared a newly created district by then Sierra Leone`s president Ernest Bai Koroma, and was ratified by the Parliament of Sierra Leone to officially become a district in the same year of 2016. Falaba District is one of the two newest districts created by the Government of Sierra Leone, along with Karene District. Falaba District borders Koinadugu District, Bombali District, and the Republic of Guinea.

Falaba District is an entirely rural district that is composed of mostly farming, livestock and mining. Many of the towns and villages in Falaba District are in far distance and remote areas within the district. The main ethnic groups in Falaba District are the Kuranko, Yalunka, Fula and Mandingo. Falaba District is home to the largest population of ethnic Yalunka in Sierra Leone.
